Phoenix WBB Design

Have you ever been to a Phoenix Mercury basketball game? Do you follow the team on social media? I live in the Phoenix area, and I attend Mercury games every chance I get. I usually end up with a half season ticket package (5 home games). I am working my way to a full season to be a full member of the X-Factor. I also follow the team and its players on social media. These are the places that I got my inspiration from for the Phoenix WBB shirt design.

Being from the Valley of the Sun and attending Mercury games I know first-hand how loud and effective the X-Factor fanbase can be. I have seen them show out every home game no matter the Mercury's standing. I also know first-hand how much the X-Factor loves their Phoenix Mercury. The roar of the crowd when DT, BG, or Sophie Cunningham hit the floor is so loud you can't help but feel the love.

I know I have mentioned it before, but I'm going to say it again..... Because of Trademark and Copyright, the printing company I use won't print any merchandise with team logos or names unless I have explicit permission from the WNBA.

Amendment: I have talked with my printing company, and they have given me a little advice and we have worked out a way for us to proceed without infringing on anyone or anything.

Therefore, I needed to use my imagination more. No problem!

I started with the words and put them in purple and orange to match some of the uniforms, some of the court designs, and the Phoenix sunset. I put the Phoenix skyline in, to rep the city and added a sunset background. Then I added the Planet Mercury rising from behind the city because they are the Phoenix Mercury.

I put the PHX in to reference the jerseys, but it's also a reference to the X-Factor with the "X" being orange and melting because of the Valley heat and because Mercury is hot. The burning paper, heart ring around the PHX is a nod to the Phoenix Mercury mascot, Scorch. Who by the way has the coolest mohawks!!

Lastly you can't think or talk about Phoenix Mercury basketball and its culture without mentioning Diana Taurasi. She has been with the Mercury for 20 years! Drafted here as the first pick, in the first round, in 2004. She made a home and a life here in the Valley. She is the GOAT of Mercury basketball and for some she is even the GOAT of the WNBA and women's basketball. She is the reason I started watching the WNBA.

So that's it. That is how and where I got the ideas for the Phoenix Basketball design. Showcasing Phoenix Mercury basketball in a different way, from a different perspective.
